  JVBI was founded in Ladnun, Dist Nagaur, Rajasthan, with the inspiration of Acharya Tulsi, the 9th Head of the Jain Svetambar Terapanth religious sect. In March 1991, the Government of India recognized JVBI as a "Deemed University" under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. JVBI is still located on the shared campus of its parent organization, Jain Vishva Bharati Institute Distance Education .  The first constitutional Anushasta (moral and spiritual guide) of JVBI was Acharya Tulsi, followed by Acharya Mahapragya as its second Anushasta. Acharya Mahashraman is currently serving as its Anushasta. Located in the Nagaur District of Rajasthan, JVBI is a university that has been awarded an "A" grade accreditation by NAAC.
